At the end of the ceremony, a wreath of red and white poppies were laid by the youngest member of the congregation 10 year old, Danny Mc Ilhiney

Twenty three peace campaigners of different age groups, different faiths and backgrounds gathered on the 11th November at 11:00 am at Bromley's war memorial, to hold their annual white poppy ceremony, in which all victims of war are remembered. Poems of peace were read and words were spoken about the horrors and long term damage created by modern warfare. Ex members of the armed services and 'Ex service People CND' were amongst those present at the ceremony, they expressed their sorrow at the loss of 88 British lives unnecessarily through MoD negligence according to the mainstream media.

They expressed regrets as it emerged that at least one third of British casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan were avoidable.

Stop the War in Bromley.

"We are approaching remembrance Sunday again, remembering people who fought for a better world, I wonder what would they make of the Oxfam report on Iraq released in July 2007? The report basically states that Iraq has been turned into one massive volatile refugee camp, where eight millions are in need of urgent aid and from which people are fleeing. 4.5 million Iraqis are currently displaced according to UNHCR and yet again the majority of the victims are women and children”

"We are extremely worried as the sabre rattling is on the increase again, this time against Iran, citing excuses and unsound justifications that we have heard before against Iraq and turned out to be untrue. This has to stop now, international law must be seen to be respected by all parties”

Campaign against the Arms Trade

Referring to the UK’s recent £20 billion arms deal with the Kingdom:

“The war on Iraq has turned the Middle East into an even more volatile and unstable region, yet the UK and US continue to sell arms to human rights’ abusing regimes such as that of the of Saudi Arabia.“

“ Bromley and Beckenham conducts this ceremony every year to remember the victims of all wars, and also to highlight the devastating and long term impact of modern warfare on the environment. Weapons such as land mines, depleted uranium and cluster bombs, continue to maim and kill long after the war is over.”
